Businessman & Humanitarian
Norm Nixon, forever memorialized as one of the greatest talents in the NBA, is an accomplished businessman and humanitarian. Upon making NBA history as a two time all-star and a member of two NBA world championships as a Los Angeles Laker, Mr. Nixon retired from the NBA in 1989 and concentrated on several business ventures.
During his playing years, Mr. Nixon was the Vice-President of the NBA Player Association. In that position, he mastered the complex business relationship between the NBA Players Union and League owners and developed expertise in the collective bargaining process. He also developed a comprehensive understanding of the intricacies of NFL Player Contracts and the NFL Collective Bargaining Agreement. Those experiences lead to his off court reign as a successful sports and entertainment agent negotiating over $200 million in contracts for the likes of Seattle Seahawks Peter Warwick; Denver Broncos Al Wilson; Jalen Rose; Maurice Taylor; TLC; LL Cool J and Debbie Allen, to name a few, while simultaneously owning and managing two of Los Angeles’ best restaurants.
In 2001, Mr. Nixon founded Healthy Body Products and was instrumental in the passing of California Senate Bill No.19, which replaced sodas with water and juices in vending machines. Healthy Body Products was awarded a five-year contract by the Los Angeles Unified School District.
In the same year, he co-founded the Debbie Allen Dance Academy where he currently serves as Executive Director. Since the academy’s inception, Mr. Nixon has produced ten children’s musicals that have been presented across the country from Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, to the Geffen Theater in Los Angeles, CA. Also, in 2008, he produced the first all-African American cast of “Cat On A Hot Tin Roof” on Broadway that ended up breaking several box office records and went on to win the Olivier Award in London.
From 2001 until 2006 Mr. Nixon worked as an analyst for KABC-TV’s post-game coverage of ABC’s NBA telecasts. In 2007 he signed on with Fox Sports Net to host the Los Angeles Lakers pre-game and post-game telecast and most recently rejoined KABC-TV.
Mr. Nixon’s wealth of experience, talents and accomplishments have made him a sought after keynote speaker to universities, businesses and nonprofit organizations where he shares his story to inspire others to rise to their individual greatness.
