Jennifer Simpson is an American middle distance runner and steeplechaser. She represented the United States at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, 2012 London Olympics and 2016 Rio Olympics. She won a gold medal in the 1500 meters at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics and silver in the same event in 2013. She won a bronze medal for the 1500 meter race at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

Jenny Simpson is a retired three-time U.S. Olympic middle-distance runner and the most accomplished American women's 1,500-meter runner in history. She won the bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and captured a gold (2011) and two silvers (2013, 2017) at the World Championships.

Simpson (née Barringer) established herself as a standout collegiate athlete at the University of Colorado, where she won three NCAA steeplechase championships. Known for her tactical racing style and formidable finishing kick, she became the first American woman to win a World Championship gold in the 1,500-meter event in 2011. Throughout her career, she won nine USA Track & Field (USATF) national titles across distances ranging from the mile to the 5,000 meters.

Following her professional running career, Simpson transitioned into advocacy and leadership roles within the running community, including working as the Chief Running Officer for Fleet Feet.

In June 2026, Simpson suffered a sudden cardiac arrest while pacing a mile group at a community running event in Raleigh, North Carolina. She required CPR and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) on-site before being rushed to the hospital. She showed encouraging improvement and was released from the hospital to recover at home with her family.
