I reached for the remote, turned off the noise of the TV set, and felt for the light switch to turn it off. I knew the morning sun had risen. The light wasn’t needed any more. I don’t need light for I’m blind. However, every morning I turn it on for my Seeing Eye dog. I just think it is a kind thing to do. However, this morning, as my fingers reached for the switch, I discovered that once again I had forgotten to turn it on for him. I laughed out loud, “Playing in the Dark.” How many times, I wondered have we played in the dark.
As I reflected, I thought of the sighted world and the metaphors this has. How many times do we chase after balls in the dark? We can do it; however, it isn’t as easy as when we turn on the light to illuminate our path. We chase after balls, skidding to a stop, blindly going after our dreams. We pick up the dream chased-after ball hoping it will bring us happiness. We run back, happy, full of energy, only to discover it wasn’t what we longed for. What if we just had turned on the light?
We all wander around in the dark at times chasing our dreams, that’s okay. Don’t beat yourself up. The trick is, once awareness hits, to immediately stop, tune into our intuition, listen to our inner voice, then to take action on the awareness and messages from our heart; for often these are the messages from the Divine. If we listen in the silence and act on what comes to us, then we will know which way to go.
One way to know if we are on the right path is to tune into our bodies and psyche. I have found that when I’m in alignment, doing what I’m supposed to be doing, that I am happy, excited, full of energy, ideas come easily and naturally, and there is a bounce in my spirit and step. When I am out of alignment/sync, I don’t take responsibility, I blame others, make assumptions, over and or under eat, sit and veg out with the TV, don’t care, can’t perceive HOW to get anything done, and I either sleep too much or too little. What about you? Are you wondering around in the dark chasing your dream ball?
One way to get back on track is to take action. Any action. Just one thing a day. It doesn’t matter what, just one thing. Other ways are to look at what you are reading and/or watching on TV. Too much negativity begats more negativity. Also, and we all know this by now, cut out the sugar and processed foods for sugar is a depressant and adds to the already depressed mood. Start physically moving for that will raise the endorphins in the brain and will counter-act those negative thoughts.
The best way to turn on the dream light is to switch your focus. Change your focus, change your life. Put your attention on the positive, on your gratitudes, on your dream. Put your focus on what brings you joy. Put your focus on what is right in your life. Put your focus on anything except the things that are bringing you down. When we change our focus, we change our hearts, vision, and lives. Stop playing in the dark and start playing in the light and see how wondrous life can be.
