First American to make the Olympic team in both open water and pool events
Chloe Sutton is a 2-time Olympian and 5-time National Champion in both pool and open water swimming. Chloe won her first National Title at the age of 14 in the 10k open water race. At 16 years old, Chloe was the first American woman ever to race in the 10k open water at the Olympics. In 2012, Chloe made history again by making the Olympics in the pool in the 400 free and becoming the first american to switch from open water to the pool. For over 8 years she traveled with the Team USA, competing with them and also learning what techniques helped them become the world’s best. At 23, Chloe now focuses on sharing everything that she’s learned to help the next generation of swimmers reach the next level in their sport and learn skills that will help them be successful for the rest of their lives both in the pool and out. She also does motivational and corporate speaking to share her story and the lessons that she learned from swimming.
Family
Chloe was born February 3rd, 1992 to David and Wendy Sutton. Wendy was a pharmaceutical sales rep and model from Chicago and David was a football player at the Air Force Academy working in space and missile defense at the Air Force. Being military, the Sutton family moved around every 1-2 years. It was hard on them at times having to move so often, but they used it as an opportunity to get to see different sites around the country and grow closer as a family. Chloe is very close to her 6’5″ 285lbs “little brother”, Colin, who is now on full scholarship for football at the University of Colorado. Colin is also an excellent student and enrolled in the Leeds School of Business.
Personal
Chloe loves to meet new people, share her story, and help people wherever she can. Even though she is retired from the sport, she still spends a lot of her time teaching lessons and clinics to keep one foot always in the water. Chloe loves spending time with her friends and being a normal 23 year old on top of her busy schedule. Chloe is a communications major with a passion for storytelling and connecting with others. Chloe also has a few fun hobbies including anything fitness related, crocheting, baking, and traveling. As a strong Christian, Chloe enjoys sharing her faith whenever appropriate and has a close relationship to God.
